Straight kitchens
A single-wall kitchen can work well in compact rooms when the preparation, hob and sink zones have enough uninterrupted counter. Tall storage needs careful placement so it does not consume the main worktop.
L-shaped kitchens
An L layout uses two adjoining walls and can leave the centre relatively open. Corner access, refrigerator position and the relationship between sink and hob deserve attention before drawer widths are fixed.
Parallel kitchens
Two opposing runs can create excellent storage and distinct wet and cooking zones. The aisle must remain comfortable when drawers, shutters and appliances are open.
U-shaped kitchens
Three working sides increase cabinetry and counter area but can feel enclosed if tall units and overheads are overused. Resolve both corners and keep frequently used zones easy to reach.
Island and peninsula layouts
An island needs genuine circulation around it and a clear purpose—preparation, seating, storage or cooking. In many apartments a peninsula can provide similar utility with fewer circulation demands.
